Torsdag 24 september visar Sea Shepherd Sweden den nya dokumentären "Before the Last Octopus" på Bacchi Syre i Gamla stan.

Medelhavet är världens mest överfiskade hav och bläckfiskarna hotas av bland annat illegalt fiske. Filmen följer Sea Shepherd Globals arbete i norra Grekland, där volontärer tillsammans med lokala fiskare, forskare och myndigheter kämpar för att stoppa det illegala fisket och drar upp tiotusentals olagliga fällor från havets djup.

Before the Last Octopus är regisserad av Robbie Newby, en brittisk filmare från Cornwall med mer än 25 års erfarenhet. Han började sin karriär på BBC Wales med grafik för nyheter och sport och har sedan dess arbetat med regi och produktion inom bland annat musik, mode och film.

Efter ett projekt tillsammans med Vivienne Westwood och PETA började Robbie alltmer fokusera på berättelser med ett etiskt och miljömässigt perspektiv. Sedan 2016 har han arbetat omfattande tillsammans med Sea Shepherd Global och dokumenterat organisationens arbete till havs i bland annat Medelhavet, Afrika, Centralamerika och Antarktis.

FILM SCREENING IN STOCKHOLM (English below)

On Thursday, September 24, Sea Shepherd Sweden will be screening the new documentary Before the Last Octopus at Bacchi Syre in Gamla Stan.

In the Mediterranean, the most overfished sea in the world, a group of international conservationists race to protect octopuses from illegal fishing, revealing a hidden world at sea and the power of collective action.

Time is running out for octopuses in the Mediterranean, where illegal fishing is decimating their populations. In Greece, a passionate frontline led by Sea Shepherd Global, is fighting back! Working alongside local fishermen, scientists, and authorities, they haul thousands of illegal traps from the sea providing what may be the last stand for octopuses in the region. With every life saved, a fragile hope remains.
